Is it possible to correct lip height asymmetry using fillers? (photos)

Question

I am aware that everyone has some asymmetry to their face, but I am unhappy with the how different the heights of my left and right upper lip are (the top most points, Cupid’s bow area). Is there a way to use fillers to pump up the height of my left lip to more closely match the height of my right lip? Furthermore, what technique would turn out the most natural looking? I feel like most lip fillers are extremely obvious and therefore unnatural/unattractive, and so I’m hesitant to do it at all.

I would highly recommend getting a formal evaluation with and treatment from a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and expert in facial sculpting. Technique is the key to a successful lip augmentation with fillers, so you'll want to see someone meticulous. I typically use Juvederm for my lip sculpting. There are two main focuses of lip injections, adding volume and actually sculpting the shape. Both involve injecting the filler in different areas of the lips and patterns.
I would recommend finding a plastic surgeon to perform you lip injections.Most of my patients have results that last at least 6 months.

What you describe as asymmetry is within the normal range of side to side variation. In fact you have very lovely full lips. However if this bothers you a smidgen of filler in the right upper lip would address. When you choose a doctor be sure to look at other lip augmentations that they have done before. Go with someone who has an eye for a subtlety. I would certainly recommend a thinner hyaluronic acid filler to achieve the result you are looking for

Thank you for your photos. It is definitely possible to raise one side to match the other. For fine tuning such as this, I prefer a thinner hyaluronic acid filler to add volume without altering too much shape. Yes, HA based fillers like Restylane Refyne can be used to improve lip asymmetry. The experience of the injector, product choice, amount of product used, and placement of product (technique) will determine result.

You are correct that all people are asymmetrical both in regards to their face and body.This asymmetry is almost always primarily skeletal.It’s very rare that the asymmetry is due to soft tissues.This is why soft tissue manipulation to correct facial asymmetry always leads to a new asymmetry. One that’s often more unnatural than the primary skeletal asymmetry.Adding fillers to one side of your lips would simply give you more volume on one side which will look strange and badly asymmetrical.There is no good technique for doing this because it’s the wrong approach.this is my opinion and I’m sure others will vary.I also don’t think anybody else perceives your asymmetry the way you do.That doesn’t mean your concerns are not real or valid. My best guess is that an attempt to correct your concerns with the use of fillers will simply leave you Dissatisfied.Best,Mats Hagstrom MD

I think that you can camouflage the asymmetry, but I'm not sure that you can correct it. Putting more filler on the down side of the lip doesn't necessarily raise it. There are a lot of terribly overdone lips out there, which might prejudice you against trying it, but you only see the bad ones, you don't see the many good ones.
