1 year after chin liposuction - Could massaging the area have caused loose skin?

Thank you for sharing your experience and concerns. One year after chin liposuction, the skin and underlying tissues are typically well-healed and stable. At this stage, massage, even with firm pressure, would not usually cause permanent loosening of the skin or undo the results of your procedure.

What you’re noticing now is more likely due to temporary tissue changes, such as mild swelling or redistribution of fluid after applying pressure. Sometimes, firm massage can make the area feel softer or look looser for a short time, but this generally settles back down as the tissues recover.

It’s also important to keep in mind that after liposuction, natural skin elasticity plays a big role in how tight the area looks long-term. Over time, especially as the skin continues to age, some changes in firmness can occur independent of massage.

The good news is that it’s very unlikely you “damaged” the results from a few massage sessions. The area should gradually improve in appearance over the coming weeks. If the looseness persists, there are non-surgical treatments—such as radiofrequency, ultrasound tightening, or laser therapy- that can help improve skin firmness.

Morpheus 8 is a non-invasive skin and soft tissue tightening treatment that is consistently amazing in our patients. We use the Morpheus to exact fractional induced RF into the skin or tissue in order to tighten collagen and stimulate contraction of the tissue. For acne scars, it is quite useful to build collagen in patients who have atrophic scars but is not very productive for ice-pick scars which require TCA Cross. Chemical peels and skin resurfacing should be done at least 5 to 7 days after, but can be performed earlier, depending on treatment severity. My best guess is that you had a significant amount of scar tissue that takes time to mature.
This process can take up to six months and can change the outcome.
