Hi, 3 months ago I had my second Botox treatment for bruxism. 4 weeks after I went back to evaluate, and the doctor added some more. The same night I noticed the left corner of my mouth was frozen, and since then I have not been able to curve the corner of my mouth when I smile. My doctor said the Botox probably migrated to the risorius muscle, but that it is weird that I saw an effect on my smile the same day. Does this mean something else is causing the crooked smile, such as a damaged nerv?

Answer: Botox effects Hello and thank you for the question. After Botox injections, it is possible that the neurotoxin can migrate and effect your smile muscles, which sounds like what you are describing. It would be unlikely to effect the facial nerve with an injection. Botox does not effect nerves themselves, rather it causes a paralysis of muscles by affecting the neruomuscular junction. I would recommend speaking with your initial provider to seek answers about what may have cause the asymmetry you have described.

Answer: It will go back to normal This is a temporary side effect of Botox which will usually dissipate in 3 - 5 months. The muscle will take some time to go back to its normal strength and movement.

Answer: Will resolve with time Hello, yes unfortunately you are experiencing a rare complication where the Botox has spread. This should continue to improve with time. From what I can see in the photo it is very mild, so there shouldn’t be much of a wait. Good luck.
