Steri Strip Lifted 48 Hours Post Op, Is It Still Effective?

There are most likely two layers of suture underneath the area that the steri-strip was covering so it is unlikely that there is a major threat to the healing process. I recommend keeping the area clean and dry. If the steri-strip is still able to stick down over the incision then I would leave it for the time being until you can get in touch with your surgeon's office. Best of luck!

Thanks for your question. I would not get too concerned about the SteriStrip coming off. I think you did the right thing by replacing the gauze. That should be fine. I do recommend that you contact your physician if you have any post op surgical questions--regardless of whether or not it is a Friday night. I am sure that he or she would be happy to answer your questions.

It is most likely that you have sutures that remain in place on her underneath the skin so the Steri-Strips will not be the critical component tear wound healing.  I recommend simply contacting the plastic surgeon's office and letting them know the situation.  They may or may not replace the Steri-Strips depending on what the preferences of the plastic surgeon.

It is most unlikely that there aren't sutures underneath, and the importance of the Steri-strips is modest. If needed, your surgeon can replace them at your next visit. All the best. 

Do your best to keep it down but it most likely won't stick anymore. To prevent more from coming off, trim with scissors right where it is still attached so it doesn't continue to peel off. Keep area clean and dry and dress if necessary. Most likely, there are at least two layers of suture so even if the steristrips come completely off,it will still be ok. 

do help hold incisions together but if your incision looked fine with the strip off, you will probably be fine.  As mentioned by others, you can use a bandaid across the wound if worried and I would suggest not doing anything that would place tension across your wound. 

As long as the incision line looks intact, you should have peace of mind that no real harm has been done,  and your end result will not be effected. Your plastic surgeon will be able to re place the tape for you during your next visit.

Your surgeon would really be the best person to guide you but, as it is the weekend and you can't contact them, I think the safest thing to do would be to keep to area completely dry for the time being. If the steristrip is holding on, then leave it alone. If it is bloodstained and half off, see if you can get a new clean steristrip to put over the wound.

The main thing is: don't worry! I'm sure you haven't done any damage.
