I'm 23, Will my Boobs Ever Develop?

Question

I am 23 years old and my boobs never really developed. I'm not sure if this is because I wore bras so that people can believe I had boobs. I wonder if it is because a hormone imbalance, though my period is regular. I feel so self conscious. I don't know what to do. I wear padded bras so nobody knows how flat I am. I feel like its un normal to be this flat.

Thank you for your question.

	It is unlikely that your breasts will spontaneously develop at the age of 23 unless:

	1. You get pregnant, or
	2. You gain weight, or
	3. You have breast enhancement surgery

	To be sure, see two or more board-certified plastic surgeons in your area for a full and complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have surgery.

Its unlikely you will 'develop' anything and you should see a local plastic surgeon to see if you have a congenital issue or was simply unlucky to not have development as you would have hoped for. Fortunately, implants can help considerably if you are willing to accept the risks of surgery and the implants themselves. If breast feeding is high on your list of things you want to do, avoid the peri-areolar approach.

I am sorry to hear about your concerns. It is unlikely that your breasts will grow any further, without significant change in weight etc. You should be aware, that ( although my viewpoint may be skewed)  that many women are dissatisfied with their breast size ( and that I have seen many hundreds of patients who are flat-chested).

	 Given your concerns, you may benefit from in-person consultation with board-certified plastic surgeons.

	Generally speaking, the best online advice I can give to ladies who are considering  breast augmentation surgery ( regarding breast implant size/profile selection) is:    

	1. Concentrate on choosing your plastic surgeon carefully.  Concentrate on appropriate training, certification, and the ability of the plastic surgeon to achieve the results you're looking for. Ask to see lots of examples of his/her work.       
	2. Have a full discussion and communication regarding your desired goals  with your plastic surgeon. This communication will be critical in determining  breast implant size/type/profile will most likely help achieve your goals.  In my practice, the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) is very helpful. I have found that the use of words such as  “natural”  or “C or D cup”  etc means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful.  Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on him who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup  size may also be inaccurate.        
	3.  Once you feel you have communicated your goals clearly,  allow your plastic surgeon to use his/her years of experience/judgment to choose the breast implant size/profile that will best meet your goals.
