What procedures are recommended for forward growth in my side profile? (Photo)

Question

I've been considering a sliding genioplasty according to my xrays however I don't know how much horizontal growth can be achieved. Given that my bite is normal can I get a jaw surgery?

Typically I advance the chin with genioplasty 6-9 mm. This will depend on the amount of horizontal projection needed to balance the face. On the lateral cephalometric x-ray it appears that would benefit from simultaneous jawline and submental liposuction. Together, this will give you a balanced profile and well contoured jawline.

It's difficult for me from the x-rays to determine the best choice for enhancement of the chin. Sliding genioplasty is a possibility as is a chin implant. More recently we are using fat grafting that can be performed under local anesthesia to augment the volume of the chin.

The pertinent question is how much forward movement of your chin is needed to create the look you desire. That can not be determined from x-rays, computer imaging of your facial pictures is what is needed. There is virtually no limit as to how much the chin can be moved forward within the limits of what you what to achieve from an aesthetic standpoint as you are probably in the 10 to 12mm range of movement. You are not a candidate for jaw surgery.

It would be very helpful to see a photograph to determine what type of soft tissue is present on your chin..I believe a chin implant would probably give you the look you so desire.  It is a far simpler procedure and it can easily be changed if necessary
