Thank you for your question! For my tummy tuck patients, I use layers of dissolvable sutures and apply dermabond glue on top of the incision. Every surgeon has their own technique and choice of supplies used for procedures. Best of luck!
Its an important question. Ultimately the goal is to perform a great procedure that patients will enjoy. There are different preferences surgeons have in closing the incisions. I suspect that most plastic surgeons use dissolving sutures instead of staples because it typically leads to the best quality scars. Its a very good question to ask your plastic surgeon along with seeing examples of their work.Best wishes,Dr. Jan
I never use staples for TTs. Permanent sutures are used for muscle plication; absorbable, for TT incision.Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Dear Charmaign08,every plastic surgeon has his own operative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hello and thank you for your recent question! Each surgeon will have his or her preference, however I think most PS will close with a dissolving suture to ensure better scar outcome. Hope this helps and best of luck !
Hello and thank you for your question. I don't recommend usage of staples during a tummy tuck. A multi-layered closure using absorbable sutures has a much better result in my opinion. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. I think most plastic surgeons on a cosmetic tummy tuck use absorbable sutures, ask your surgeon beforehand, good luck.
It will depend on the surgeon, some use staples and some use sutures. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.
Each surgeon has her/his own protocol, however it is less common to have staples than not. Your incisions will have layered closures but the top most layer is not typically closed with staples. Speak with your surgeon for her/his preferred technique.
Based on the photos, these appear to be related to tape or other dressings that may have been in place after surgery. Tight dressings or tape can result is shearing of the skin as it normally swells after surgery. Think of it as a very superficial sunburn that blisters. I would cover with Va...
Hello. Great question. At six weeks, it should not be a problem. However, I will suggest discussing your concerns with your surgeon. Every surgeon has different post op protocols.
An in person evaluation is needed to determine if your muscle repair has failed. If you have weak fascia you may benefit from having mesh used to support the tissues during the revision. You can visit with another board certified plastic surgeon for a second opinion if you are unsure about...
