I'm 3 months breast aug post op and I want to take St. John's Wort supplement for better sleep and less anxiety. However, this website does not recommend taking St. John's Wort for breast aug patients. Does this only apply to new patients? If my surgery was 3 months ago, can I take St. John's Wort? Would it hinder my healing at any chance?

Answer: Breast Implant, Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, Breast Augmentation with Implant, Fat Transfer to the Breasts Hello Jelly Ace 959259, Thank you for your question about taking St. John's Wort three months after breast augmentation surgery. Timing Post-Surgery: At three months post-operation, you are generally safe to resume most preoperative medications and supplements. This is because the critical healing phase has typically passed by this point. St. John’s Wort Uses: St. John's Wort is commonly used for its potential benefits in aiding sleep and treating mild anxiety. It's known for its natural therapeutic properties. Precautions During Immediate Postoperative Period: The caution against St. John's Wort is primarily relevant just before and immediately after surgery. This is due to concerns about its interaction with anesthesia and its potential effect on bleeding. Safety at Three Months Post-Op: Given that you are three months postoperative, the risks associated with taking St. John’s Wort should be significantly reduced. At this stage, the concerns related to immediate postoperative complications are generally no longer applicable. Consultation with Your Surgeon: While it should be safe, it's always advisable to consult with your plastic surgeon or healthcare provider. They can provide personalized advice based on your specific health status and the details of your surgery. In summary, taking St. John's Wort three months after breast augmentation is generally considered safe. However, confirming with your surgeon or healthcare provider is the best course of action for your peace of mind and health safety. Sincerely,
