Dear docter. Iam in my 20's and suffered severe hair loss since three years. I started taking prp and done with 4 sessions. I am even using minoxidil at nights. When investigations are done iam vit d deficient nd iron deficient and even diagnosed with pcos. But still my cycles are regular every month. I cannot affort for maintenance of prp every six months. Continuing minoxidil life long can help me or not without maintenence? Can minoxidil only retain my hair without prp? Please help me .

Answer: Minoxidil and PRP It appears as if the effects of PRP are short-lived (e.g. 3-6 months) so it would be best to continue Minoxidil indefinitely as a maintenance medication.I would check with your doctor regarding other possible treatments(e.g. Spironolactone for PCOS).

Answer: Minoxidil and PRP Minoxidil and PRP work differently so you can use both at the same time. One is not a substitute for the other. The benefits are additive. Minoxidil works well in perhaps 40% of patients and even then may only work for a few months. It's benefits may cease at some point. PRP works well in over 90% of patients with androgenetic alopecia but like everything in hair treatment, also needs maintenance every 6 months or so. Stopping both will likely result in a reversal of benefits. You definitely should take Vitamin D supplements and iron as well, as both of these are associated with hair loss. So the bottom line is to take the Minoxidil for as long as it is effective. Once it stops working, you might try Low Level Laser Light Therapy as this is the least expensive treatment (after paying for the unit) and works in perhaps 35-45% of patients.
