Is Restylane Defyne safe to inject in the lips?

Question

I have medium lips but wanted a fuller pouty look so my med spa injected restalyne defyne. After I saw a plastic surgeon for an unrelated procedure he said restalyne defyne shouldn’t be injected into lips, is this true? (whenever he injected my lips a year ago with juvederm I saw zero difference for $750)

Inexperienced injectors (an injectors who should know better) blindly follow manufactures suggests and use these products because they are told by the company representative that these products are good for lips. They are not good for lips. These are low G prime fillers are runny. That means they do not stay where they are put. They tend to drift. This is was causes saugage shaped lips and lip shelfs. Low G prime fillers are pushed because they are called "smooth." The lumps and bumps take care of themselves because the product diffuses aways from the site of injection. That is viewed as a benefit to the injector but it leads to a mediocre treatment result. To get the most effective treatment, one needs to use a high G prime filler that holds where it is placed. However that requires skill.

Restylane Defyne can be injected in the lips however it will not offer a lot of volume. Defyne is good for more definition but if you want more volume you can try other fillers such as regular Restylane, or Kysse, etc.

Various fillers have been used to improve the lips. Restylane Defyne is not specifically designed nor approved for the lips, but has been used successfully in the lips and most certainly is safe. Juvederm tends to be a bit softer, and if you weren't happy with the results with it, definitely trying one of the Restylane fillers which tend to be firmer and have higher G' makes sense. More important than the filler is having a knowledgeable and highly trained and experienced physician injector to ensure optimal results and safety.

Restylane Defyne is not FDA approved for lips because the company is not marketing it for that but it does beautifully in lips. If gives a much firmer more precisely shaped lip that Juvederm. I use it in lips all the time as some of my patients prefer this lip over any other. As long as you have an experienced injector you should be fine. If you like the way your lips look enjoy them an do not worry.
