Sun and sea advice after FUE transplant

Question

Hi, I am planning on having a FUE transplant in May. I have booked a three week holiday in Malaysia in July. I was wondering whether it will be ok for me to go on holiday at 2 month post transfer? Will the sun exposure damage the grafts? Also, is it ok to swim/dive in the sea? Thank you!

2 months after FUE hair transplant operation you can expose yourself to sun and sea. It won’t cause damage.

It is best to contact your doctor about post operative care and instructions since each doctor has a different regimen.  There should be no reason why you can't go on vacation.

Swimming in a pool or open water earlier than 4 weeks after surgery can harm your grafts, but you are fine to resume exercising (jogging, cycling, swimming and do lifting) anytime after 4 weeks post surgery. However, a reminder that water increases the likelihood of your grafts and scalp being affected by the suns rays. In addition, any exposure to the sun in general can be harmful to your grafts. Make sure that you protect your scalp from the sun for 6 months post surgery with a hat and make sure that you wash your hair the same night that you go swimming.

Hey there,Very well two months post FUE transfer is a good amount of time to ensure adequate tissue healing and graft take. I would not consider it a contraindication to swim in the sea or take a stroll in the sun.

At two months post-op you should be able to live a perfectly normal life- no need to worry about a vacation. Scuba diving you should wait 6 weeks at the minimum but regular swimming is fine after 2-3 weeks.

After having an FUE I tell my patients that they can do anything but dive under the water for at least 4 weeks. I also advise them to wear a hat when in the sun.
