Why does this part of my lip hang lower when I smile? (Photo)

Question

I got lip fillers just over a year ago and I recently noticed that my lip on side hangs lower when I smile. What can I do about this? Will the old filler need to be removed before new filler can be injected? Thank you

Hello, it is hard to tell if there is an abnormality from the photos, but a year later, any filler injected should be gone now. I'd make an appointment with an experienced injector to get a consultation.

Most lip fillers last about 6-12 months, depending on the type of filler used and how quickly your body breaks it down. So there is most likely no filler left in your lips at this point. The unevenness that you see when you smile can be corrected with filler, even if there is still a little left from the previous injection. Make sure you see an experienced board certified physician to discuss your wishes. Good luck!

Hi and thanks for your question.Most of the fillers we use in these days are HA fillers and they will go away in 9-10 month. I do not see any abnormality in your lip base on your picture but I suggest you to see an expert physician for consult and proper assessment

Thanks for sharing your question and photo. It's hard to determine the cause based on this photo. Most of the lip filler you had previously injected should be gone at this point. I recommend an in person consultation with an experienced injector. A lip filler treatment could certainly help improve symmetry of the lips.

Most fillers that are injected into the lips are broken down by our bodies after 10-12 months, so chances are that you have little to no filler left.  If your smile looks different than it did before the filler, that may be due to some natural aging.  I would recommend getting a consultation with a very experienced injector and explaining to them how you want your lips to look.  They should be able to inject new filler and get you the results you want!
