Can I get lip injections after fat trasfer to lips, and if so, how long should I wait? I have heard mixed reviews about fat transfer to lips, but it seems so much easier than constantly getting injections. Is lumpiness a very common side effect?
Answer: Lip augmentation Dear BrittE92,yes, you can use fillers after fat transfer to lips. I perform a lot of lip injections with fillers such as juvederm and it works great. There are two main focuses of lip injections, adding volume and actually sculpting the shape. Both involve injecting the filler in different areas of the lips and patterns. For patients looking for a more long lasting result, I recommend fat grafting. That is, using your own bodies fat to make your lips naturally look more shapely. The bonus is that the results last many many years.

I like using fat for the lips because it feels soft and natural and little swelling, but unfortunately it goes away as fast as the HA fillers. I usually perform fat transfer when other areas of the face are being treated. For the lips alone, it is just easier to use an HA filler such as Vollure. You can have filler added to your lips within a month after receiving fat transfer.

They are stuck with this for years. The good thing about fillers is that Hyaluronic Acid fillers can be removed with Hyaluronidase if you do not like your results. They do have to be periodically repeated. I like Volbella. It has a natural, soft texture. It could be injected after fat transfers have adequately healed (4-6 months). Best Wishes, Maurice Vick MD
