Can I get lip injections after fat trasfer to lips?

Dear BrittE92,yes, you can use fillers after fat transfer to lips. I perform a lot of lip injections with fillers such as juvederm and it works great. There are two main focuses of lip injections, adding volume and actually sculpting the shape. Both involve injecting the filler in different areas of the lips and patterns. For patients looking for a more long lasting result, I recommend fat grafting. That is, using your own bodies fat to make your lips naturally look more shapely. The bonus is that the results last many many years.
In general, I avoid using permanent prosthesis because I find that the lips are such dynamic and sensitive structures, the end result is not natural.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS

Yes, you can have fillers placed into the lips after fat transfer to the lips. I like using fat for the lips because it feels soft and natural and little swelling, but unfortunately it goes away as fast as the HA fillers. I usually perform fat transfer when other areas of the face are being treated. For the lips alone, it is just easier to use an HA filler such as Vollure. You can have filler added to your lips within a month after receiving fat transfer. 

You can have fillers after fat transfer. Keep in mind, it will take 3-6 months for final results with fat transfer.  Harvesting is important to fat transfer. Fillers can be done after fat transfers. I would recommend letting the lips heal for 4-6 months after fat transfer before adding filler to see how you like the fat. Lumpiness is possible which is why some people shy away from fat in the lips but it is longer lasting than fillers which patients like. Fat transfers definitely last much longer. This can be good or bad. I have seen several patients in whom too much fat was injected. They are stuck with this for years. The good thing about fillers is that Hyaluronic Acid fillers can be removed with Hyaluronidase if you do not like your results. They do have to be periodically repeated. I like Volbella. It has a natural, soft texture. It could be injected after fat transfers have adequately healed (4-6 months). Best Wishes, Maurice Vick MD

Thank you for your question. A newer alternative to fat transfer to the lips is micronized fat transfer (ALMI). This process uses a small amount of your fat that is micronized such that the mature fat cells are stripped away and the ALMI fat is rich in regenerative cells such as stem cells. This gives a very long lasting, predictable result. I would suggest waiting a few months following fat transfer to the lips before adding in a filler.
