Hi renee730. TCA peels do come in a variety of strengths depending upon why they are being used and where they are being applied. A 40% is a strong dose. Skin that is thin and delicate may use 15% (like under eyes), while thicker or more damaged skin (like on a décolleté) requires 35%. Certain skin types should never have a TCA peel due to the risks, such as of post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation. Be sure to have a proper skin analysis before embarking upon any kind of chemical peel. Consultation with a board certified Plastic surgeon will help you prepare before the peel, and give you guidelines to ensure a safe course afterwards. good luck!
TCA peels at 40% concentration is rather strong and can be problematic if applied by yourself. In our office, we use a lesser concentration with multiple passes. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
The surface skin can often turn brown after a chemical peel. Once the skin peels, the underlying skin will be a normal color. In our office, we recommend application of Melarase creams to help reduce the onset of discoloration of the skin. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
All chemical peels have risk. Acne scars require deeper chemical peels to achieve efficacy. In our office, we recommend application of Melarase creams prior to chemical peeling to reduce the chance of surface discoloration. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
At this point, I would use a ceramide cream such as Elevase to soothe your skin. In addition, laser treatments can help reduce blushing of your skin. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
