I live in the United States I will use reference standards in regarding to appropriate medical care on our community. I grew up in Sweden and I’m still a Swedish citizen so I know Scandinavian culture and medical care also. The great majority plastic surgeons in the United States, offer virtually all cosmetic surgical procedures, with the great exception of implants. Why do you think plastic surgeons don’t offer that procedure? I can tell you that the great majority of surgeons are highly motivated to do any cosmetic surgical procedure that pays well Gluteal implants are no exception from that perspective. The main reason plastic surgeons generally do not perform the procedure is because the complication rate, side effect and surgery failure is astonishingly high. The fact that someone offers the procedure has board certification and impressive pictures on the website doesn’t change this reality. I generally do not recommend people travel long distances for elective surgical procedures. The more invasive and complex the procedure the more I encourage people to stay local. Considering the gluteal implant as one of the highest complication rate of any cosmetic surgical procedure, this is not a good operation to do in a different country In fact, it’s simply not a good operation. A lot of people travel for BBL surgery. The procedure has also left a lot of people disfigured, and with the results drastically different than they had hoped for. Delivery, consistent quality, liposuction and fat. Transfer results is far more difficult than most people realize Jay had the number of plastic surgeons who have mastered this procedure are in a small minority. Liposuction an results are permant and irreversible. When done poorly patient can be left disfigured. Correcting poorly done Liposuction is extremely difficult and often is not possible. Being bored, certified in plastic surgery with years of experience, and an overall good reputation does not mean somebody has mastered anyone single procedure, especially not Liposuction. The following are some general guidelines for choosing plastic surgeons, minimizing disappointment, and catastrophic failure. To find the best provider, I suggest patient schedule multiple in person consultations with experienced plastic surgeons in their community. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures of previous patients who have similar body or facial characteristics to your own. An experienced plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. An experienced provider should in fact have hundreds or preferably thousands of before and after pictures to choose from for commonly performed procedures. Being shown a handful of preselected images, representing the best results of a provider’s career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results will look like in the hands of each provider. There is no correct number of consultations needed to find the best provider. The more consultations you scheduled the more likely you are to find the best provider for your needs. Take careful notes during each consultation, especially regarding the quantity and quality of before and after pictures. It’s not a bad idea to bring pictures of your own body/face to use as reference when reviewing before and after pictures. The biggest mistake patients make is scheduling only one consultation without properly vetting or comparing providers before scheduling surgery. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
