SMAS and a neck lift 6 months ago and have lumps under chin still. Is this normal? (Photos)

Question

I’ve been back to PS twice for steroid shots under my chin because he said it might be some scar tissue. Last shot was 6 weeks ago. Shouldn’t he know what is causing this and not be guessing? I feel like I look deformed. Is there a way to fix it? I’ve seen tons of pics of people getting this procedure done and they are completely smooth under their chin just a few weeks after surgery. I’m really getting concerned.

It is not unusual to see lumps or irregularities under the chin after a facelift. This is typically the result of liposuction. Scar tissue develops and can feel firm and rubbery. This is normal. Time and massage will improve this. However on occasion, touch up work such as skin redraping and tightening, or repeat liposcultping may be needed to improve the final outcome. Be patient and follow up.

Thank you for your question. I am not a fan for injections of steroid. I would ask your surgeon for a surgical revision instead I believe that the success is higher and more reliable that injections.

Since you have had steroid injections, which can help excessive scarring, but also cause atrophy of residual fat it is difficult to say.  Minor irregularities will improve as the scar softens between the skin and the underlying muscle.  Since it is 6 months you may require a minor revision.  Continue to follow up with your board certified surgeon.

Great question. I understand your frustration but I would allow some more time for healing to take place. Kenalog shots and massage along with time may allow your result to improve. Pls keep close follow up with your surgeon.
