I had inner thigh lipo 3 months ago and I am not too happy with how it's now looking. Throughout the healing process I wore my compression garments (almost 24/7), was consistent with my diet and exercise, and had the lymph drainage massages. But what I've noticed is an uneveness moreso on the right thigh, and visible indentations on both thighs looking from the side. Were my expectations too high, and this normally happens? Or did the doctor mess up and what should I do?

Answer: Liposuction results Delivering consistent quality, liposuction results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who mastered this procedure is quite small. Inner thigh Liposuction is technically much more difficult than other areas. That combination puts people at high risk for having poor outcomes from this procedure. How many before and after pictures of previous patients did your provider show you during the consultation? How many plastic surgeons did you consult with before selecting your provider? Liposuction results are permanent and more or less irreversible. For this and many other reasons, I recommend patients be highly selective when it comes to choosing providers for this procedure. I generally recommend patients have multiple in person consultations before selecting a provider. During each consultation as each provider to open up their portfolio And show you their entire collection of before and after pictures of previous patients who had similar body characteristics to your own for whatever procedure or anatomic area you’re considering. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients for commonly performed procedures. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images, representing only the best results of a providers career may be insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider. Post operative massage and compression garments have nothing to do with the outcome of Liposuction. Results are purely based on each individual persons candidacy for the procedure and selection of provider, or in other words how the procedure was performed. Postoperative care is not going to change someone’s distribution for the results of the procedure. At three months, your results are final and are not going to change by waiting further. Improving poorly done. Liposuction results is extremely difficult and can easily make things worse. Unfortunately, these are the results of your outcome. I wish I could be more optimistic but the time to be critical of plastic surgeons is during the vetting process while interviewing providers. You may want to negotiate with your provider to see if you can get some of your money back That’s probably about your best course of action at this point. Best, Mats Backstrom, MD
