If you are still taking pain medications or antibiotics, it is best to avoid alcohol. The effect of opioids and alcohol can be unpredictable. Also some antibiotics may make you very sick if you drink alcohol with them.
This is something that you should get cleared with your surgeon. For my patients, I want them to wait until they have finished their pain medication and antibiotics, and then only in moderation. Good luck.
Thank you for your question. Immediately after surgery I would avoid any alcohol, as you will likely be feeling the effects of anesthesia and pain medications. Alcohol can also impair your blood's ability to thicken and create clots, which will increase your bleeding risk, and the possible development of a hematoma. Best not to mix alcohol with pain medication, but once you are off of narcotics drinking some wine in moderation would be fine.
