Hello, I had a open rhinoplasty in August 2022, and I have a couple of questions. I have spoken to my doctor about my concern and he recommended me to use a nasal dilator. Will wearing one really make a difference? My second question is that I feel like after my rhino, I have a "short nose". My smile completely changed and at first I thought it was because I was swollen but after all these months, it still looks weird. Any advice would be appreciate it. Left side before surgery
Answer: Revision Rhinoplasty Hello! Thank you for your question. As far as I can see from your photos you one nostril seems like collapse after the surgery. Nasal dilator will not be the solution for this situation. With the revision rhinoplasty your surgeon might be place external graft and solve this problem. It would be more convenient to decide with face-to-face consultation. If you can provide photos with better lighting, from the side of your face and 1 meter away I would be able to make a proper evaluation about the short nose which you worried about. Best Regards!

Answer: Nostril asymmetry may take a full year to resolve. Though we have never recommended a nasal dilator, we have seen nostril asymmetry like yours take a complete year to improve, since swelling tends to remain at the bottom of your nose for the longest. The only way to comment on the length of your nose would be to look at before and after profile photos. I hope this is helpful and thank you for your question. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Answer: Rhinoplasty It's not uncommon to experience changes in breathing and appearance after a rhinoplasty procedure. Regarding your first question about nasal dilators, they can be a helpful tool to improve nasal breathing in some cases. Nasal dilators work by opening up the nasal passages, reducing resistance to airflow, and helping to reduce nasal congestion. If your doctor has recommended a nasal dilator, it's worth trying to see if it helps improve your breathing. However, it's important to note that nasal dilators are not a solution for all breathing problems. If your breathing difficulties persist, it's essential to follow up with your doctor to discuss other treatment options. Regarding your second question about the appearance of your nose after the rhinoplasty, it's possible that the changes you're seeing are due to swelling, as swelling can take several months to subside fully. However, it's also possible that the surgical changes have altered the proportions of your nose, causing it to appear shorter. It's important to follow up with your doctor to discuss your concerns and have a comprehensive evaluation of your nasal structure and appearance. They can provide guidance on whether additional treatment or revision surgery may be necessary to achieve the desired result. It's also essential to have realistic expectations regarding the outcome of your rhinoplasty. While the goal is to achieve a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing result, the final outcome can be influenced by factors such as skin thickness, nasal bone structure, and healing processes. Your doctor can provide you with a more comprehensive understanding of the expected outcome of your rhinoplasty. I hope this helps, best of luck !
