How many times do you think I’ll need to get my seroma drained? I’m 4 weeks post TT

How many times one needs to drain a seroma after a tummy back (i.e., abdominoplasty) is variable and not easily predictable. One factor is certainly activity level - the more active you are, the more fluid you will likely accumulate. In rare cases, a closed suction drain will need to be re-inserted. With that being said, try and be patient and follow up regularly with your surgeon.

There is no definite answer to this question. For some only one aspiration is needed. For larger seromas it could be multiple. If the seroma does not seem to be healing your surgeon may place a temporary drain to encourage it to resolve.

Seromas or fluid collections have always been the most common complication after a tummy tuck. Drainage by needle aspiration is usually effective but often needs to be repeated several times. Each surgeon has their own protocol > I usually have the patient return a few days after the first drainage to see how much has re-accumulated. I repeat this again a few days later until my drainage is around 20cc's and then I have them come back in a week. I try to aspirate again and usually  I get 20 or less and then I leave them alone with their compression garment. The body will handle the rest.
