Can Ultrasound detect any type of displacement?

Question

Hi I’m 7 months post up. I had motiva 380cc. I recently feel my left side boob moves while I lie down on the side. Also I feel it faces more outwards compared with my right side. I feel a slight pain on the left side’s edge. I did ultrasound exam and the doctor said everything is fine. Can ultrasound detect any type of displacement? What can ultrasound detect besides rupture? I really worry about my breast shape change. Any answers are appreciated. Thank you.

In addition to ruptures, ultrasounds can show fluid collections around the implant and nodules associated with the capsule or over the capsule.  Displacement is a diagnosis made on physical exam.  If this continues to be a concern, you could see your plastic surgeon and discuss any possible correction, which would be surgical.

I understand your concern. Ultrasound can show the pocket and implant placement. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice.

You do not need imaging other than basic physical exam in order to detect implant malposition. Sometimes the pocket is too large, and the implant can shift around, sliding to the side and outward on the chest. Seek out a plastic surgeon for correction.

Displacement can be determined through a physical exam by your surgeon.  If you feel the implant is moving to much laterally you can consider surgical intervention to tighten the pocket.  Ultrasound is useful for many things including determining if there is fluid collection or a rupture.

Textured implants can move and those that are shaped can change in appearance if the implant turns. Ultrasound mainly shows ruptures, fluid, and masses.  You can look back at photos and see how things have changed.
