What can be done about the shape of my breasts and areola? Tanner IV stage (photos)

Question

Hi, I have a rather odd shape of areola and breasts, and I think I have inverted nipples. It seems to me as if my breasts are not fully developed (as if they are in the Tanner IV stage). Am I right? Could this be due to my low weight? Is there anything I can do about it? Thanks in advance for your answer.

Breast enhancement with implants would alleviate many of your concerns.

Appropriate sized implants for you body, measurements will improve shape, nipple areolae, etc.

An exam and consultation with a plastic surgeon is recommended to discuss your options and expectations.

Hi, thank you for sharing your question. The majority of people have asymmetries between the two sides of their body and breasts are no different. Your breasts appear to be fairly symmetric but due to your body habitus, may not have the amount of fat that is typical in larger breasts or larger women. Breast augmentation may be a good option to increase breast volume in your situation.

If interested in implants I recommend an in person consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss your goals and be measured. After I measure and discuss goals with my patients, we then look at pictures of women (my patients) with similar measurements with different size and profile implants. You get to see actual results and the surgeon's experience and not a virtual idea of what can be achieved. Women tell me that this process is very helpful. There is always the possibility that the implants might be seen or felt on the side of the breast or under the breast where there is little or no muscle. Your areolas are normal, the nipples are not inverted, you have small breasts and are quite thin.  You may benefit from small breast implants.

It appears that your breast are small but symmetric. Augmentation with small medium profile implants would help. You may need additional surgery for puffy areola; I am not sure that your nipples are inverted, that needs to be evaluated on the basis of in person consultation. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question and photos. A precise reply can only be offered after an evaluation in person. That said, based on your photos you do not have a case of arrested development. You have a common variant and one component of “tubular” breasts, namely sub-areolar protrusion of the breast parenchymal tissue. This can be corrected with or without a simultaneous breast augmentation by reducing the skin envelope around the areola and correcting the “herniation” of the breast tissue beneath the areola.

I appreciate your concerns however it appears from your photos that you do not have any sort of breast or nipple deformities. You certainly do not have inverted nipples. Your breasts are small, but the shape attractive and it appears that you have a very low body fat, which may contribute to the appearance of an odd shape. Modest weight gain may be helpful and another option would be placement of round smooth silicon implants under the muscle if you desire larger breasts. From the photographs that you presented, it appears that you have normal breast shape anatomy, although  small. Part of this is likely due to the fact that you appear to be in exceptionally good shape with an apparent low body weight. Additional body weight would likely make your breasts slightly larger. However, should this not occur and you would like larger breasts, a breast augmentation should give you an enhanced version of the breast that you started with. I also did not notice any evidence that you have an inverted nipples. Discuss this in detail with your plastic surgeon to arrive at the best choice for you. Best wishes.

From the photos it appears your breasts are small, but normal.  The areola has slight herniation which can be corrected surgically if desired.  It doesn't appear that the nipples are inverted.  I have included a video about breast augmentation if that is something that interests you.

First, if you are 18 or older, the Tanner classification does not relate to you. Second, when you post photos of your breasts on this site, please do so with your arms down by your sides. Third, the size of your breasts is related to genetics, hormones, and weight. Genetics you cannot change and not all ladies develop much breast tissue with weight gain. If you want larger breasts, go visit with a plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns and options.
