Over 1 year post op and I've noticed sharp pain and drooping - could this be lateral displacement? (photo)

Hello, I had a breast augmentation done a little over a year ago. I got 350cc silicone implant on the right, and 375cc silicone implant on the left. Just recently I started having sharp pain in my left breast/ribcage area. I also noticed my left breast is “drooping” to the side. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Thank you.

I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice.

Hi! It looks as if there is some asymmetry especially with your left side. Most likely the breast pocket on the left side is bigger than the right. A head on view would be helpful to see if there is a discernable difference. If it truly bothers you a small revision can tighten the pocket and bring that implant more central.

Yes, your breasts are displacing laterally and your breasts have fallen more laterally. Breast implants are not lifetime devices, they will eventually fail and need to be removed or replaced. You may be better off with smaller implants as well as repair of the pocket laterally to prevent lateral displacement.

The lateral displacement of the left breast and pain is puzzling. On exam of your photos, the right breast appears to have capsular contracture. I cannot account for the left breast pain in the absence of trauma. It looks to have a loose and soft periprosthetic capsule, and lateral movement of the breast in supine position is normal. Your best bet is to see a board certified plastic surgeon and have a in person examination.

It's difficult to say what may have occurred and what is causing the pain without further information.  It does appear the implant is displacing laterally.  This can be corrected by tightening the pocket through surgery.  I encourage you to visit with your surgeon for an evaluation.

You probably tore some of the capsule and now the implant can push to the side more when you lay down. Wear a underwire bra and not let the breast fall to the side. Perhaps it may heal, or surgery will be needed.
