Will there be too much skin left after a nose reduction?

When a nose is downsized, eg nostril reduction, the incision remove both cartilage and associated skin or just cartilage. If skin is not removed at all, won't there be too much skin left?

Good Afternoon! When a nostril reduction is performed, the skin is excised but no cartilage should be removed as there is none in that area. A wedge is removed and the incision is hidden near the sill and ala-upper lip sulcus. If performed well, it can hide quite naturally. The amount of reduction will vary but in most of my patients I remove 2.5-3 mm per side to achieve a natural result. Hope that helps!

Excess skin after rhinoplasty? A Rhinoplasty to reduce the size of a large nose reduces the skeletal framework which consists of cartilage and bone. No skin is removed. The skin envelope then contracts on its own, over time after rhinoplasty. This happens very quickly in young people with elastic skin, and even happens remarkably quickly in older people with less elastic skin. By the time the cast is removed, one week after surgery the skin has mostly re-draped. A nostril tuck, or “alarplasty” is the only time skin is removed.
