What aspects of the nose are assessed from the basal view? The basil view shows the width of the tip, the width of the alar base, the projection of the nose, and the relationship between the width of the tip and the alar base. The width of the tip is typically changed during most rhinoplasties in some cases the projection is changed and in some cases the width of the nostril base is changed keeping a pyramidal relationship between the base of the nostrils and the tip. The projection of the nose is aesthetically ideal when it is in relationship to the length of the nose by an appropriate proportion. The same is true of the width of the tip and the width of the nostril base.
Good Afternoon! The base or "worm's" view is often underappreciated in rhinoplasty. I have photos taken of the base view at rest and with inspiration. Breathing difficulties such as inspiratory collapse may cause the shape to change after rhinoplasty if not addressed. The edges of the nostrils should be roughly between the inner canthi of the eyes. Additionally, the nasal shape should be somewhat triangular with a gentle flow from the tip to the ala with no pinching. The nostrils should be symmetric. The tip to columella ratio should be 1:2 in most cases. Hope that helps!
Thank you for your question. During a rhinoplasty procedure, the nostrils can be narrowed or the nasal projection addressed to improve the appearance of the area you describe. Rhinoplasty is one of the most complex of all plastic surgery procedures, requiring experience, skill, and even artistry...
The alar base refers to the entire width of the base of the nose when viewed from below. The area between the nostrils is called the columella. Alar base reduction narrows the whole width and makes the nostrils smaller but does not affect the columella.
Hello there! The profile "ideals" will vary from person-to-person and surgeon-to-surgeon. For males, a straighter profile free of a hump with limited supratip break and a rotation of 90 degrees is "desirable" by many. For females, the bridge may be straight or with a slight curvature with a...
