Does 'alar base' refer to the base of the bridge between the 2 nostrils when viewing from bottom? OR does it refer to the end to end nose width (bridge + nostrils)

Alar base is the full width of the base of the nose measured from the end of side wall of one nostril to the end of the other nostril.

The alar base refers to the entire width of the base of the nose when viewed from below. The area between the nostrils is called the columella. Alar base reduction narrows the whole width and makes the nostrils smaller but does not affect the columella.

The alar base is located at the junction of the alar wing of the nose and the upper lip. Removal of a wedge of the nostril wall allows reduction of nostril size and elimination of nostril flare.
