Hi Crew.  The gold standard for port wine birthmarks is a pulsed dye laser.  We use the Cynosure V-star and the Candela V-Beam to remove these birthmarks.  Click on the link below to see examples of before and photos for port wine birthmark removal.  

There are many options for treatment of this but pulsed dye laser, Excel V laser, microsecond Nd:Yag laser all are viable options.  You may lose some hair in the area though.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Port wine stain birthmarks respond very well to laser treatments.  These can easily be done in the office.  Sometimes, more than one treatment is needed to obtain the best results.  

The birthmark you're showing in the photo should be treatable to the point of disappearing or almost disappearing.  You will likely need 3-4 treatments for the best result. The best lasers to use for that type of stain are Vbeam perfecta with a 10mm spot size at a high fluence or a Max G handpiece on the palomar icon 

The pulse dye laser or V Beam can be successful in over 90% of cases. You will require between 4-8 treatments. Birthmarks on the face do better than those on the limbs.  Red birthmarks such as PWS are easier to treat than brown ones. All the bestDr Davin LimLaser DermatologistBrisbane, Australia.
