Scalp Micropigmentation: is a patch test performed first?

SMP is basically a foreign substance deposited into your skin.  It can potentially cause an allergic reaction or infection if not performed correctly under medical supervision.  Patch test is not usually done, but for those who have a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions, we offer a patch test.

 A test procedure in an inconspicuous location is always a safe bet.  Patients can then see results and experience the procedure on a small scale.  Atopic patients can possibly be allergic to the dyes used.Please use this information when consulting in person with an experienced certified micropigmentation specialist.

Hello.As a dermatologist, I understand the concept of introducing pigment into the skin and potential flags for senstivity.  I do offer patch testing for the following reasons: a) make sure the pigment reflects the correct color from below your skin color; b) the color matches your hair; c) you do not have any sensitivity to any ingredients; d) let you know how the procedure will feel.  Every operator is different.  Your operator should know how to treat complications and be able to adjust as necessary.
