Dear VOGI31,every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. We offer complimentary Venus Legacy Radio Frequency Treatments after liposuction and BBL to help with fluid mobilization.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
I am a big fan of lymphatic massage following surgery. I in no way benefit financially as my patients are referred to independent practitioners of said arts. My patients fell better faster with a concomitant decrease in overall swelling. I consistently receive reports of increased urination following a session due to presumed mobilization of the extracellular fluids created by surgical trauma. I cannot speak to the application of radiofrequency energy but others do use it and believe in it.
It is recommended by some plastic surgeons. Some of these treatments may help, but can also add to the overall cost of your liposuction surgery. Self massaging the areas is also quite effective. There is not any strong evidence that these post op maneuvers change your outcome, so it truly is a matter of surgeon opinion.
I know of no scientific evidence stating massage regardless of what type has any beneficial long-term after liposuction. Be especially aware if there is a financial gain to the plastic surgery office or clinic for obtaining massage treatments after liposuction. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
Consult your doctor for massage recommendation and other options. You may have swelling and discomfort for 6 months or longer before you see your final result.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Dear Hourglass 37, This depends a lot on the surgeon and the patient. If the patient is recovering well and has minimum pain, i start the massages 5-7 days after surgery and recommend 10-15 sessions ( 1 session daily). You will have an easier and less painful recovery this way. Best of luck!
I do not recommend lymphatic massage as I have seen aggressive massage result in hematomas and fluid collections.
Hi, 3 weeks is too soon to see results because some swelling and bruising may persist for 6–8 weeks. It varies greatly between patients. Final #results can usually be seen 2-4 months later as the swelling continues to diminish and contours become more defined, but improvement will continue...
Not every doctor knows about or appreciates the importance of lymphatic treatments. I do think the technique works well. Best wishes and congratulations, Dr. Aldo
