SMP when offered by non-doctors, fall under the same regulation as tattoo shops.  SMP clinics need a license by the city.  SMP employees need a cosmetology license.

This is a tricky question that hopefully will gain traction with regulatory boards.  In every state it is a different qualification.  Some states say you have to have a cosmetology license, others say you have to have a tattoo license.  It's all over the place and no regulation on the level of skill or experience for the operator.  Make sure your SMP operator not only knows how to perform SMP but more importantly, knows how to handle complications to SMP-scarring, dark spots, excessive scaling or dryness of the scalp, etc. Nikki D.
