I had 10 porcelain veneers placed 1 month ago. 7 of them look great but 2 of the teeth are showing a bluish tint under the veneers close to the gum line and 1 tooth is showing a bluish border around the side edge of the tooth. Some of my gums were bleeding quite a bit during the prep appointment. Will the 3 veneers that seem affected need to be replaced? Was this poor technique or can this happen to any dentist? Is it fixable? Thank you!

Answer: Gum Line Discoloration I am thinking Two possibilities:1) Failed/Contaminated bond with micro-leakage2) Discolored root/tooth (sometimes associated with a endodontically treated tooth or previous metal filling)You can re-seal the edges of a veneer if the color can be bleached/cleaned off but if it re-occurs, usually have to be replaced. Contact your dentist and let them examine and suggest options soon.

Answer: Bluish tint around the veneer Hi:If the bluish tint is under the veneer, most likely the veneer has to be replaced due to blood seeping under the veneer at the time of cementation. I suggest you go back to your dentist to have him/her evaluate the discoloration. Sometime the discoloration can be superficaial, in which case it can be polished off.Best,Dr. Maddahi
