Can a veneer fix my one crooked top tooth? Or should I get two for both of the top teeth for symmetry? (Photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

Looking at your photos, the appearance of your teeth and your smile I guess that you are relatively young.

For younger clients I would recommend braces or aligners in the first instance because your teeth are quite attractive and using veneers just to straighten them is not great.

You should use veneers because you fundamentally want to change how your teeth/smile looks. If you want your front two teeth to just 'fit-in' to your smile, over the years this will lead those two teeth looking progressively old/tired compared to the rest of your smile, and not whitenable like the other teeth -.

Good luck with whatever you decide

Do you have to fill the inside of the teeth with any filling after internal bleaching? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

Filling the space after internal whitening is very challenging, and the choice of material is critical. Normally dentists wait 2 weeks before filling the insides as the bleaching chemical prevent a good bond before this time.

Ask your dentist if this was what was planned.

Good luck!

Is Zirconia or eMax more preferable for a premolar tooth (i.e., tooth # 4)?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

The choice of bonding or cementing is dictated by the crown material, the patient/tooth need and dentist preference.

There are a wide variety of shades and types of cements and adhesives now so your dentist will be able to test and use the best one for you.

e.max longevity has been shown in some significant 5 and 10 year trials, so done well, shade change or 'shine-through' should not be  a problem.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do -

Kind regards

Will veneering my bottom teeth help orthodontically? New crowns seem too short and more overbite. (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

As you have been through a lot of treatment already without any progress, I agree with my colleagues here and suggests you pause for a bit.

Headaches can be fixed independently of tooth treatments. Also any further veneer treatment should include a stage of transitional temporaries that allow you to experience the feel and appearance of how the final treatment will look.

Good luck

Can veneer thickness be sanded down? Just had 6 veneers put on the top and they are to bulky and protrude out to far. (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

If your veneers are made of porcelain, then the short answer is no.

Porcelain veneers are relatively thin, and although they can be adjusted slightly, the full-surface thinning of them will make them rapidly fail.

You need to speak to your dentist to ask about alternative options, and recheck the diagnostic models to see how they were supposed to look.

Good luck with getting this sorted -

Kind regards

What is the best treatment to fix a brown stain on my composite filling after root canal therapy? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

There are many reasons for the brown stain, including the type of filling that was in the tooth before the root treatment was done.

The best order of things to do to correct this is:

  1. Speak to your dentist - it is possible that the root filling has been left a little high inside the tooth and is showing through the crown. It can be simply reduced down which will immediately improve the appearance.
  2. Internal bleaching will allow the shade of the tooth to further improve, root treated teeth, before they die often bleed internally. This blood residue soaks in to the walls of the tooth, and only internal whitening can be used to remove this.
  3. You may hear about veneers being an option, but unless they are minimal, and unless you really wanted to have your teeth veneered, are not a very natural looking option, particularly if you have this done only on one tooth.

Good luck with fixing your tooth

Kind regards

Front 4 teeth too wide and veneers making it look worse - help! (Photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

Missing teeth and the following 'camouflage' of other teeth to look like missing teeth is always a compromise to correcting a complicated situation. I will list the alternatives, which because of where you are right now may be involved, but it is still good to have them on the table.

  1. Veneer more teeth to spread the extra space over more teeth. You will need your dentist to ask the technician to wax up how this will look when 8 or 10 teeth are veneered so you are happy with the result
  2. Make the front 4 teeth longer, this will correct the proportions of the teeth so they do not look too wide. However, your back teeth may no longer meet. You will need to see a dentist who is trained in these methods e.g. Dahl technique which is a simple orthodontic style movement of the back teeth.
  3. Make the canines a little less bulky (this involves more drilling). This will allow them to better follow the curve of your arch.

As someone who has already had orthodontic treatment, you qill understand that only full veneer options are quick, but not always the best option.

Good luck with discussing this with your dentist

What can be done to get rid of the gray stains on my teeth? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

Visiting a dental hygienist can remove most of the visible stains, but seeing a dentist at the same time will help any underlying causes of tooth discolouration that is not a result of staining - such as tooth decay (which also commonly appears darker that normal tooth) or inherent darkening that could benefit from tooth whitening.

Good luck with your visit -

Could yellow teeth be whitened if there is dental cavity?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

Cavities, especially if they are deep ones can leave the internal nerves of your tooth exposed.

The ultimate cost of not treating cavities before doing tooth whitening is that you could end up causing yourself a completely avoidable root canal.

See your dentist and get all your required treatment done first.

Good luck and kind regards

Dead tooth - home custom tray whitening? I want to whiten all of my teeth. (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Thank you for your question.

Here are your options, regardless of cost, starting with the ones that will give you the best results

  1. Re-doing the internal whitening and simultaneously whitening all your teeth in trays (typically overnight). Following all the diet advice
  2. Re-doing the internal whitening and then after a wait, whitening all your teeth in trays (typically overnight).
  3. Placing gel only in your dark tooth with home tray whitening for maybe 2 weeks before placing gel for all the teeth for a further 2 weeks. This will show you how white your dark tooth can get. If you are happy with that colour, then you can avoid the internal whitening this time.

Good luck and kind regards

I had a range of treatments on my front teeth that went really well. I am very pleased with the way Tom works. And I feel that he always pay attention to every little detail. I cannot thank Tom enough for the amazing work he did for me.

Excellent work!

Tom was responsible for a replacement crown for a previous root canal. The work was carried out very professionally, and I was always informed on what was being done. Unfortunately, I had moved away from Tom's practice and could no longer visit. My current dentist has complemented the work he has done on my teeth, and has said the tolerances on my new crown are excellent.
