I typically recommend silicone gel for my patients. However, tape can work also. I'd recommend taping for 3-6 months. Make sure to wear sunscreen on your scars for the first year when out in the sun. If you're wearing a bathing suit, put sunscreen on first, let it dry, and then put on your bathing suit. Congratulations on your recent surgery.

You are at the point whre the body should "quiet down" and the scars should start to mature. Use Mederma during the day and massage of the scars will help.

in an attempt to minimize scarring?  You should ask whomever recommended that you tape your scar.  Most scars will get better with time and I do not routinely advocate scar therapy and leave it up to my patients as to whether they want to use such strategies.

Silicone pads placed on the scars for the first year after surgery can make a big difference. There are several brands available on the web. 

Thanks for your question. I generally recommend scar therapy for the first 3 months after a procedure. Beyond that, simple moisturization daily of the scar should be all that is necessary. Time alone and the normal healing process will occur from there. I hope that helps.

At 11 weeks I would stop with the taping and use a scar gel (silicone & vit E).  It looks like you will get a great result once the scar has settled.  Remember though, a scar take up to 2 years to fully mature.

From your photos it looks like you are healing well.  I have my patients tape their incisions for at least three months and if at three months their scar is still quite pink, I have them tape longer or until the scar is either white or the same pigmentation as the rest of the skin.  And it's super important to keep any exposed scars out of the sun.  UV radiation can permanently tan a scar so be extra careful with that belly button scar if you venture out in a two piece.  Tape is best for UV protection but a good sunblock would also be okay.
