Pins and needles sensation and edema after liposuction (post op 5 months) Should I be concerned?? (photo)

Hello! I had lower leg liposuction (WAL) for lipedema. I'm 5 months post-op. My right leg feels almost back to normal, however left leg has more edema and pins-and-needles feeling. They are the same size. Both legs still swell around ankles, but wondering why the one leg feels different? Should I be concerned about lymphedema? Is one leg sometimes slower to heal for some reason? Any input? My doctor is in Germany so I can only talk to him via email/photos. Thanks! I still get MLD 1x per week.

Some of the sensations experienced during the recovery from liposuction can persist for up to a year.  Generally speaking they do decrease in intensity and frequency over this period of time.  If it persists beyond a year and it is not improving I would discuss it with your surgeon.

Hello!This is a tough area to treat and recover from. I believe the best therapy would be obtained from a physical therapist who specializes in lymphatic massage. You can likely get a referral from your primary care provider.

Odd sensations after liposuction are quite common and not of concern, generally.  Differences from side to side are also common and nothing to worry about.  They are unlikely to be permanent although they can take weeks and months to go away.  If they persist, or there are functional problems, like trouble walking, contact your surgeon.
