Tell the truth about rhinoplasty?

Could you have a septoRhinoplasty, and pass it off as functional? most people don’t quite understand what is involved in a functional septoplasty, so “sneaking in“ a little rhinoplasty along with it will probably go undetected. They may notice that you look better but they won’t know that it was the rhinoplasty not the septoplasty that caused the improvement. Some may not even know that it is your nose that is the reason that you look better. I have many patients who have a rhinoplasty for a dramatic dorsal hump with a very long and over projecting those that have a dramatic cosmetic difference. Interestingly most of their friends just noticed that they look great but not why. People are often asked after such a procedure whether they have gotten a new hairstyle or have lost weight because they really look so good. Few people noticed that it is the nose. So if they know you were having a septoplasty for breathing difficulty they will probably not make much of any cosmetic changes that may also be there other than to notice that you look better.

Hi there! That's a tough decision for sure. I do have patients who will say certain things to close family members to avoid any discussion of cosmetic changes. That is a personal choice for which I can't make any advice. Sometimes, though, there are legitimate reasons why the nose would change shape - for example, with trauma. It will likely be hard to hide these changes especially if they're significant in the immediate operative period. Hope that helps.
