Keloid scars are characterized by their growth potential and increased degree of inflammation within the skin. Unlike non-inflamed scars, keloids have the potential for growth beyond the original footprint of injury. Our office specializes in the management of keloids, whether single or multiple, using a combination platform that includes lasers, RF, scar modulation, Parke-Davis Scar Protocols, and injection therapy. Some keloids will require surgical intervention as an initial step for treatment. Best, Dr. Raffy KaramanoukianRealself 100 Surgeon
We cannot erase mature keloid scars, but we can flatten them & lighten them in color via the use of an algorithm of intralesionsal anti-inflammatory agents in varying concentrations, combinations and amounts starting with triamcinolone acetonide suspension. You would be wise to consult with a board certified cosmetic dermatologist with experience in treating keloids. Best of luck.
Two options to treat your keloids.Less Invasive - a generous amount of dilute local anesthetic that constricts blood flow in the area, followed by painless intralesional injections of Kenalog is very effective. The dilute local anesthetic causes vasoconstriction, allowing the Kenalog to absorb into the keloidal tissue instead of being more quickly absorbed into the blood stream. This procedure is less expensive and less traumatic than excising the keloid. Excision with SRT - Excision followed by Superficial Radiation Therapy is another option for more stubborn keloids. Two to three days of radiation (SRT) is delivered to the excision line starting the day after the excision. This treatment boasts a less than 10% recurrence rate.
