Numbness still 12 months post op SMAS face & neck lift - could this be causing health conditions? (Photos)

Question

I have many health conditions with SMAS face and neck lift with lip under jawline. I’ve since been diagnosed with Graves’ disease and psoriatic arthritis too now. I have full numbness sides of face, parts of neck, left ear, right forehead and numbness sometimes right under left eye. When I touch just above right eyebrow I get tingles on top of my head. At first I could tell things were nothing together but for months now no change. My surgeon says it isn’t from my face & neck lift and to see a neurologist. Please hellp?. I meant health conditions at the start of this sorry!.

It is normal to have temporary numbness of the entire neck and significant portion of the face, possibly ears, for 3-12 months after surgery. In some patients it may take even longer for sensation to recover! In some cases, like forehead (when brow lift is performed) there may be an injury to the distinct nerve (supraorbital) which corresponds to your pain when touching forehead above right brow. Injection of corticosteroid into this area may sometimes help. 
It is not likely that surgery itself has triggered Graves’ disease and arthritis. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thank you for your query. Some numbness is normal for several months after a face and neck lift and should resolve although it is taking you  longer than usual. The systemic diseases , Grave’s and Psoriatic arthritis, are very unlikely to be related to your surgical procedures. The posted photos are quite helpful, but most likely the century nerve issues as you describe or due to the surgery or could possibly be related to the thyroid issues. You need to first get your medical issues under control with an endocrinologist or internal medicine physician. As far as the sensory nerve changes if they’re immediately occurring after the facial surgery, then you’ve had some type of nerve injury most likely for more information.
