The commonest cause of vomiting within 48 hours following any form of facial surgery is taking pain killers on an empty stomach. Many of the frequently prescribed pain killers (tylenol #3 is the largest culprit here), should be taken with a little bit of food (yogurt works well) to coat the stomach lining and minimize gastric irritation. Do this, and if vomiting persists, contact your surgeon to rule out other causes-and probably think about either stopping any pain medication or changing to an alternative pain killer that may cause less stomach upset . Good luck with your new set of eyes !!
Hi Tomkins13,Vomiting after a blepharoplasty is usually the result of adverse reaction to anesthetic agents and/or medications, such as oral sedatives, antibiotics, or narcotic pain medications. Rarer causes might be increased intraocular pressure from orbital hematoma, anxiety, electrolyte imbalances, gastroenteritis, myocardial infarction, and kidney failure.Follow closely with your surgeon or, if intractable, go to the emergency room.Best wishes,Dr. Jay
Vomiting post-surgery may be caused by anesthetic or medications prescribed post-op, painkiller being the most common cause. Taking in food before taking medication is indeed one of the few things you can try to see if the vomiting stops.
