Not many patients have 3 liters of pure fat available after liposuction. Of the 3 liters, more than half is water (saline), blood and oil. This needs to be strained and is not useful fat for a fat transfer. Therefore, if you have 3 liters of lipoaspirate removed, you may be able to obtain 1 liter of pure fat (if that) of which you can have 500 cc injected per side. Be careful of any surgeon who tells you you will have 1500 cc or more injected per side, if so, they are injecting water/blood into your buttock, not fat.
