Scar changes in tummy tuck scar from 8 years ago (Photo)

Question

In the past year it's become raised and tender and about a week ago it began peeling. I'm having trouble getting to see dermatology. Any thoughts/guidance would be appreciated.

You should see someone asap for this. It is unusual to see this after 8 years. My immediate concern would be to rule out Squamous Cell Carcinoma which can occur in scar tissue. You do not need to be seen by a dermatologist. See if your primary care doctor can arrange for you to see a general surgeon.Please get this seen asap. Hope this helps.

It's unusual to have a problem with your scar 8 years later. Occasionally, a small suture abscess can occur which is treated with incision and drainage and possible antibiotics. I would see your plastic surgeon who can help you with this problem.

I understand your concern. This can be caused by permanent suture, if it was used during the surgery. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice.

The picture is hard to make out details, but if I had to guess what is going on, I would guess infection. Tightening up the muscle is often done with non-absorbable sutures can become infected even years later. Some surgeon is also close the incision with a non-dissolvable suture, although this is much less common. If you can talk to your original surgeon to see what kind of materials were used in your case, that is the best starting place. If not, I recommend making an appointment with a Board Certified plastic surgeon to be evaluated.

You are eliminating some sutures, this is normal y some cases , just take care avoiding sun exposition and use scar cream
