What is the best scar therapy for tummy tuck and breast lift scars? Silicone strips? Keto-cote? Palmers? (Photo)

Looking for the most effective scar therapy treatment to treat the scars from my mommy makeover. I am 8 weeks post op and have been using silicon strips for about 4 weeks now (once all the wounds closed) and using lotion and trying to massage the slightly raised areas of my scars. Is a liquid silicon as effective as the strips? Or are none of them worth the money?

Thank you for your question! For my patients, I recommend that they use a silicone based scar cream called Biocorneum. They are instructed to use it on all incisions for 6 months to 1 year post surgery. I recommend discussing specific postoperative instructions with you’re plastic surgeon. I hope this helps!

There are many options for scar treatment.  Silicone strips used consistently work well to minimize scarring.  Our patients have also had success with the Embrace Scar Therapy System.  Troublesome scars can be addressed with laser treatment and/or steroid injections.

Every surgeon has their favorite scar cream. I will only use a scar cream that has shown improvement in scar appearance by clinical trials and data. I personally use biocorneum since it is approved by the FDA and has shown good clinical results.
