Should you sleep with the binder on?

Question

I mean I put it on every morning leave it on ,nice and snug and then I take it off to shower ,relax before bed.i don't wear it at night..should I ?? I was told to wear for 6/8 weeks just not sure if that includes at night? Thank you for your answers

The abdominal binder really is for your comfort after a tummy tuck procedure.  I tell my patients to wear it full time the first few weeks and then they can stop using it if they prefer.  Most patients like the feeling of being compressed especially if they have had their muscles tightened during the tummy tuck. But, the binder is optional and does not affect the eventual outcome.Thomas Taylor, MD, FACS

Hello Kimber.Congratulations on your recent tummy tuck surgery. It sounds like it's going well. I personally recommend patients wear the binder at bedtime too. I personally ask my tummy tuck patients to wear a binder or other type compression garment for one month post op.  This includes at nighttime.  Patients can remove the binder for bathing, washing the garment, or brief respite periods. The garment can help with swelling and facilitate the skin settling in its new location.  Many patients like the support that a compression garment gives and go on to wear it past the recommended one month.  Your doctor will be more than happy to clarify the specific protocol they like to follow when it comes to post op compression wear.
