So I have chronic atrophic gastritis, pernicious anemia and iron deficiency which I am currently taking supplements for (iron and B12). My levels have been stable for years now. I was 230lbs and now 120lbs. I would like to space out 6 surgeries. Lipo 360 and lipo side of boobs in January 2027. Tummy tuck and mastopexy in June 2027. Breast augmentation and blepharoplasty in December 2027. What are the chances that I can do all these surgeries as planned within the year. I spaced the surgeries this way to avoid complications such as a thromboembolism. Will a thromboembolism occur due to my health conditions even when spaced out in this format? Lastly, what are the chances that my body would reject the breast implants?

I often see severe iron deficiency in my weight loss patients, who like you cannot properly absorb and process dietary iron.

As long as your blood levels are good (Iron, transferrin, saturation, TIBC, a d ferritin) you should be able to proceed with the plan you mentioned.  Your hematologist may offer input for building your iron back up between surgeries too.  Remember, iron is needed not just for blood building but it's essential in helping your body fight infection.

With chronic atrophic gastritis, pernicious anemia, and iron deficiency, surgery is not automatically impossible if your levels are truly stable. However, planning six procedures in one year is ambitious and should be approached very cautiously.
The main issue is not only spacing. Your body needs enough iron, B12, protein, and overall nutrition to heal after each operation. After major weight loss, tummy tuck and mastopexy can also place significant demands on wound healing, blood count, and energy recovery.
Lipo 360, tummy tuck, mastopexy, augmentation, and blepharoplasty are different levels of surgical stress. A tummy tuck with muscle repair and mastopexy is already a major combined surgery. Adding multiple operations within the same year may be possible for some healthy patients, but your medical history means you should have formal clearance from your primary doctor, gastroenterologist, and possibly a hematologist.
Thromboembolism risk depends on many factors: surgery length, anesthesia time, BMI, mobility, personal or family clotting history, smoking/nicotine, hormones, blood disorders, dehydration, and the specific procedures. Spacing surgeries reduces cumulative stress, but it does not make clot risk zero. Each operation needs its own clot-prevention plan.
Your body does not usually “reject” breast implants like an organ transplant. The concerns are infection, capsular contracture, poor wound healing, implant malposition, or inflammatory symptoms. Stable anemia does not automatically mean implants will fail, but poor nutrition, low iron, or low B12 can increase healing risk.
My advice would be to plan this in stages, but stay flexible. Before each surgery, check CBC, ferritin/iron studies, B12, folate, albumin/prealbumin, electrolytes, and overall medical clearance. If any values are low, postpone rather than push the schedule. Safety should guide the timeline more than the calendar.

Hello. With your history of pernicious anemia, iron deficiency, and significant weight loss, I would take a more conservative approach when planning multiple elective surgeries.
Personally, I recommend waiting at least 6 months between major surgical procedures. This allows your body to recover completely and gives us time to make sure your blood counts and nutritional status remain stable before proceeding with the next surgery.
In my practice, your hemoglobin must be above 12.5 g/dL before I would consider you a candidate for elective plastic surgery. I would also want to see:
- Iron studies: within an adequate range, without active iron deficiency.- Ferritin and transferrin saturation: adequately corrected and without evidence of depleted iron stores.- Vitamin B12: within the normal range for the laboratory, particularly given your history of pernicious anemia.- Complete blood count: stable and without significant abnormalities.- Overall nutritional status: adequate, especially after such significant weight loss.
Preoperative anemia and iron deficiency should be identified and corrected before major elective surgery because they are associated with increased perioperative risks.
Regarding blood clots, spacing your procedures by at least six months is helpful for recovery, but it does not completely eliminate the possibility of a DVT or pulmonary embolism. Your individual risk would need to be reassessed before every operation, and appropriate preventive measures should be taken.
As for breast implants, we don't typically describe the main concern as your body “rejecting” them. Complications such as capsular contracture, infection, rupture, or the need for revision surgery can occur, but these are different from a classic rejection response.
With your medical history, I would prioritize your laboratory results, nutritional status, and complete recovery between procedures rather than trying to complete all six procedures within one year. If your body is not ready at the six-month mark, I would recommend waiting longer before proceeding with the next surgery.

Congratulations on your impressive weight loss!  I encourage you to begin by visiting with the physicians you see for your medical conditions and discussing your interest in these procedures.  If given clearance you can then schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to learn about the procedures.  Additional labwork and tests may be requested prior to surgery and/or additional precautions after surgery may be recommended by your surgeon as your safety is the priority.  Scheduling the surgeries six months apart should be adequate.
