Dr. Serdev shows good results that, according to him, last a "long time". In surgery, the best results are always obtained by the "inventor" or "promoter" of procedures. That is not to say there is anything wrong with learning from originators or promoters. One just needs to compare those results with ones obtained by other surgeons. Certainly, you can get average, good, very good or excellent results with many different techniques. I suspect if you were to have a browlift by someone who ONLY does Serdev sutures, you may get a better result than from someone who is an occasional user. Then, what we do and why comes into play: if you don't undermine (most barbed sutures rely on tissue anchoring rather than undermining, repositioning and supporting), procedures are quicker with less bruising. However, even when people claim that one barbed suture is better than another and that using particular methods of introduction yields better results, a cautionary approach is wise. Finally, there are brow lifts, brow lifts and brow lifts: some people actually need their brows lifting; others may need reshaping of the brows or addressing of asymmetry; yet others may need a change in hair-line, etc, etc. So to ask of one particular technique is suitable is difficult to answer. If the question is do these sutures work, the correct answer would be "certainly in the hands of some they appear to work!"Always ask to see before-and-after photos of patients operated upon by the surgeon (not from the internet) and ask to see the length of results you desire: one year? Two years? Five years? This type of question always elicits much debate, which is good for cosmetic surgery.Best of luck.Prof. Bhupendra C. K. Patel MD, FRCS
