Dr. Serdev shows good results that, according to him, last a "long time". In surgery, the best results are always obtained by the "inventor" or "promoter" of procedures. That is not to say there is anything wrong with learning from originators or promoters. One just needs to compare those results with ones obtained by other surgeons. Certainly, you can get average, good, very good or excellent results with many different techniques. I suspect if you were to have a browlift by someone who ONLY does Serdev sutures, you may get a better result than from someone who is an occasional user. Then, what we do and why comes into play: if you don't undermine (most barbed sutures rely on tissue anchoring rather than undermining, repositioning and supporting), procedures are quicker with less bruising. However, even when people claim that one barbed suture is better than another and that using particular methods of introduction yields better results, a cautionary approach is wise. Finally, there are brow lifts, brow lifts and brow lifts: some people actually need their brows lifting; others may need reshaping of the brows or addressing of asymmetry; yet others may need a change in hair-line, etc, etc. So to ask of one particular technique is suitable is difficult to answer. If the question is do these sutures work, the correct answer would be "certainly in the hands of some they appear to work!"Always ask to see before-and-after photos of patients operated upon by the surgeon (not from the internet) and ask to see the length of results you desire: one year? Two years? Five years? This type of question always elicits much debate, which is good for cosmetic surgery.Best of luck.Prof. Bhupendra C. K. Patel MD, FRCS
Using only suspension sutures will achieve good results in a limited number of patients and in those, results don't last more than a couple of years at best. I do both hairline and endoscopic depending on the characteristic of the patient.
Is more important to Find a excellent brow lift surgeon, than it is to worry about what type of sutures that physician is using. The brow lift procedure is indicated only for patients who have low-set eyebrows. Asymmetrical eyebrows can be adjusted, the hairline can be adjusted upwards or downwards, eyebrows lifted, and the muscles of expression including the frontalis and corrugator muscles can be softened.
Serdev suturing technique is one of many that can be used in many applications. Ultimately there are more important factors leading to a good brow lift result
I have never found suture suspension to be long lasting. I have suspended brows with sutures after an endoscopic brow lift as additional support but wouldn't rely on just the sutures. The needles used are like the Reverdin needles used in the past and suspending the brow is not a new procedure.
With this procedure suspension sutures are used to elevate the brows without removal of any excess tissue. With this technique and the endoscopic procedures the hairline will be elevated; therefore they are best used in patients with a lower hairline to avoid a recessed hairline after the lift. In patients with a higher hairline I recommend the Irregular Trichophytic Incision Technique to avoid this problem. As I have said many times, select the surgeon not the technique.
As long as there was no significant loss of full thickness tissue above (or below) the brow, post-traumatic swelling can cause all sorts of facial distortion! If there is swelling, the upper lid or brow will be in a position that will give you asymmetry. The nerve can be traumatized (usually...
You are very astute. Some feel that the Endotines which gradually resorb over a year will allow the brow to fall back to original position. Others feel that it is permanent fixation long after the plates resorbThe answer is probably both events- some it is long lasting...
Thank you for your question. Shaping the brows is one my favorite parts of using Botox and it can be done at the same time as treating the forehead or frown lines. It requires a very detailed understanding of the underlying anatomy as well as assessing each individual while they are animating...
