What are the reasons a post-op care nurse would be better than a family member post neck & lower facelift?

I'm planning on a neck/lower face lift. Is it not a good idea to have a family member ( someone caring and willing) take care of me post op vs a hire post op nurse? What are the reasons a post op care nurse would be better than a family member, aside from cost.

We usually recommend a family member or a close friend to provide postoperative care for first 24-48 hours after face/neck lift. There is no need for professional like MA or RN. Hope this helps.

Most patients are cared for only by family members after their neck lift/lower facelift. What is most important is that, whoever cares for you, they should be attentive, help you with daily care and be sure you follow the postoperative instructions. If your family member is also a qualified medical person that’s an added plus.  Some patients choose to hire a private duty nurse to care for them. That is an option, although a more expensive one. In my practice, the majority of facelift patients will have a family member or close friend help them for several nights after surgery.  Most of the time this works out well.  When our practice senses a non-helpful, disinterested, stressful, or toxic individual who is the assigned caregiver, we insist on an outside nurse. If you prefer an outside nurse, I recommend that you go with your gut feeling. From a medical standpoint, there isn't a lot of "medical care" required other than reminding you about medications and enforcing activity restriction.

In our practice, it's not necessary to have a nurse, but just a responsible adult that can get you back-and-forth to the office and take care of you for the first 48 hours after the surgery. We also use drains that your caretaker will tend to, and they are removed at 48 hours, rather than painful pressure wraps.
