I had IPL treatment today. The skin still feels tender 12 hours after the treament, but redness has faded. I am worried because the left temple area (in picture) has a new rectangular brown shape around the area that was treated with IPL. Is this going to go away in a few days or is this now permanently discolored?
Answer: IPL Thank you for your question. It appears to be a burn. Be sure to follow post care instructions and use a daily sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays. If it does not heal or if it begins to hyperpigment, contact the provider who performed your treatment for a follow up to discuss your concern and any options for additional treatment. To be sure, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

Answer: Most likely a burn The skin on the temples tend to be thinner than other areas of the body. The rectangular shape indicates that you most likely have a burn.Don't fret. Ice, use sunscreen and don't apply anything on the skin that would be irritating. Allow the skin to heal. If you hyperpigment you can always use hydroquinone to help lighten the pigmentation, but I would wait until the skin is healed.

Answer: IPL Burns Hi Rimmy. It's hard to tell from the pictures how well you will heal, but it is clear that you will have some hyperpigmentation at least for the near term. IPL is not ideal for Asian skin so you may consider finding a practitioner that has laser options to treat your condition. For some information on Asia skin laser treatments, click on the link below.

Answer: Brown spots after IPL Thanks for your question. IPL will temporarily make pigment irregularities worse. With your skin type, you may also experience temporary increases in pigment. After a few days it should flake away. For now, put some vaseline or aquaphor on the areas to help them to heal. You should be totally fine in a few days; this is a normal reaction.
