Hi I'm looking to get IPL for my rosacea but I am worried about the risk of beard loss, is it possible to use short wavelengths eg.530nm and avoid hair loss? Any help would be much appreciated Thanks in advance Carl

Answer: IPL and beard loss IPL treatments can cause hair loss. For this reason, I avoid the beard and mustache area when treating men. Rosacea often appears on the cheeks and nose, so an effective treatment can usually be done while avoiding the beard area. Any spider veins on the face can safely be treated with a 1064 Nd:YAG without risk of hair loss.

Answer: When one has rosacea and one is planning on having a laser or an IPL Thanks for the question. When one has rosacea and one is planning on having a laser or an IPL done for treatment, this needs to be done by someone very skilled in taking care of this with these devices. Rosacea treatments are medical first, lasers (or IPLs second) in most instances. We do have several new medicines for rosacea so I would suggest that you make an appointment with a board-certified dermatologist to learn more about the new therapies we have that target facial redness. When we use lasers, we commonly use a pulsed dye laser as it avoids removing hair in most instances. IPLs can cause hair loss – they are often times used as hair removal devices so one needs to be careful here. Consult the right derm, learn the new treatments, and combine the proper devices to these medicines when needed.
