Coolsculpting Coolsmooth applicator--just for thighs?

Question

I recently heard about Zeltiq's new Coolsmooth applicator, and was wondering if this device can be used on abs as well as thighs. I have a very slight dent in my abdominals that I would like to rectify and am wondering if the Coolsmooth applicator could help with that. How does this applicator work?

Thanks for your question. The Coolsmooth applicator was designed for outer thighs because it is a flat surface and does not use suction like the other applicators. It can be used on other non pinchable areas like the abdomen but you will need to meet with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to determine if your are a good candidate. One of the smaller applicators may be a better plan for you. Best Wishes.

The CoolSmooth applicator can also be used on the abdomen as well. It is a flat applicator that does not suction your tissue in. The CoolSmooth Pro applicator takes 1 hour and 15 minutes and is secured to the treatment area with a foam template and straps. It freezes your fat just like the other applicators do and there is also a post treatment massage. It is best to come in for a consultation to determine if you are a candidate for the treatment and if CoolSculpting can address the dent that you are concerned about.

The various applicators associated with CoolSculpting are each designed for particular areas of the body. The CoolSmooth applicator works especially well of areas of non-pinchable fat. This is because the device doesn't use suction for treatment, but instead has a unique flat design. Because of this, it requires two hours for a full session treatment instead of the one hour associated with the original applicator that uses suction. Thank you for the question! Yes, Coolsmooth may be used on the abdomen. An assessment would be need to done to see if you are a good candidate also to see if it would improve the appearance of the contour irregularities. Coolsmooth works the same way as the other attachments, the difference is there isn't any suction of the fat, therefore, freezing of the fat takes 2 hours instead of 1.

The CoolSmooth applicator has been designed for areas of "non-pinchable" fat. This most likely occurs in the saddle bag areas of the outer thighs. However, the applicator can also be used for non-pinchable fat of the abdomen and flanks as well. CoolSmooth is the latest applicator for the CoolSculpting method of destroying fat cells through cryolipolysis. The flat CoolSmooth applicator does not require “pinchable” areas of fat. Instead, the flat surface is placed on the treatment area to rid it of up to 25% of fat cells in one session. If you have a very small amount of fat on your abdomen that cannot be pinched, the CoolSmooth applicator may work for you. Otherwise, original CoolSculpting could be the solution. As for the dent, it will be evaluated during your consultation with a board-certified dermatologist to find out if it can be improved through fat elimination.

The main use of the new CoolSmooth applicator is for the outer thighs.  However, many providers are using this applicator in other areas of "non pinchable fat" such as the abdomen.  The smooth applicator works in a similar mechanism as the traditional suction applicators.  It still uses cold to induce fat cell death.  However, since the tissue is not suctioned away from the underlying tissues which contain a lot of heat, the procedure takes two hours.  It is best to have an in person consultation with an experienced CoolSculpting provider who can determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure, as well as which applicators will best meet your needs.

The CoolSmooth is a surface applicator which provides non-vacuum based application with a single cooling plate. It was specifically designed to treat the saddle bags on the outer thighs. However, it would be applicable for any areas that have non-pinchable fat. I recommend coming in for a face to face consultation in order for the provider to assess if you would be a good candidate for CoolSculpting.
