Hysterectomy and tummy tuck at the same time?

Question

I need to have a partial hysterectomy due to a large (12x9x9) fibroid. I want to have a tummy tuck at the same time. I am sure this has been done before. I will be 50 years old. I want to do something for me. Thoughts?

A tummy tuck can be done at the same time as a hysterectomy and I have done this occasionally.  The preoblem you run into is cost.  The added cost of the hospital for the cosmetic procedure is often large enough to make not financially a good idea.  I can assure you, the hospital will want several thousand dollars up front to cover these costs and you may even get billed additionally later.

Although online consultants cannot provide you with specific advise regarding the “safety” and suitability of this combination surgery for you,  the two operations can certainly be done safely for the appropriately selected patient.  Best to be as close to possible to your long-term stable weight prior to proceeding. Hysterectomy and Abdominoplasty at the same time is a common combination.  It is great because there is one recovery and some hospital charges may get included under insurance (in and out of room time, overnight stay).  There may be an increased risk of surgical  problems and these should be discussed and trade offs accepted.

Yes, these procedures are commonly performed at the same time in my practice so patients have one recovery and the anesthesia and operating room charges are less as some of these expenses are covered by the hysterectomy. Make sure you find a very experienced plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery; that's my best advice after 30 years performing aesthetic plastic surgery.
