Hysterectomy and tummy tuck at the same time?

A tummy tuck can be done at the same time as a hysterectomy and I have done this occasionally.  The preoblem you run into is cost.  The added cost of the hospital for the cosmetic procedure is often large enough to make not financially a good idea.  I can assure you, the hospital will want several thousand dollars up front to cover these costs and you may even get billed additionally later.

Although online consultants cannot provide you with specific advise regarding the “safety” and suitability of this combination surgery for you,  the two operations can certainly be done safely for the appropriately selected patient.  Best to be as close to possible to your long-term stable weight prior to proceeding. Make sure you have chosen your surgeons carefully.

Hysterectomy and Abdominoplasty at the same time is a common combination.  It is great because there is one recovery and some hospital charges may get included under insurance (in and out of room time, overnight stay).  There may be an increased risk of surgical  problems and these should be discussed and trade offs accepted.

Yes, these procedures are commonly performed at the same time in my practice so patients have one recovery and the anesthesia and operating room charges are less as some of these expenses are covered by the hysterectomy. Combining procedures is pretty common, but depends a lot on the patient's risk factors.  Since tummy tucks have a relatively high risk for blood clots compared to other cosmetic procedures, you have to be careful in your assessment and in trying to reduce the risks as much as possible.  It is fantastic if you are able to this (one anesthestic, one healing period, reduced cost, etc), but only if you are very healthy!  Be sure to be completely honest with your surgeons when talking about your medical history, medications, supplements etc.  Good luck!

Your interest in performing these two procedures at the same time is common. Several issues come up. First and foremost is what are the patient's individual risks. Were they a smoker, are they 65 or older, is there a history of any cancer, have they ever had a blood clot, do they take estrogen....these are examples of things that increase the risk of blood clots with these joint procedures. Another concern is sometimes a patient has had several intraabdominal procedures before that may make the hysterectomy a bit more complicated or at least a much longer procedure to perform. Also do your doctors even have privileges at the same hospitals or do they tend to operate on the same day, or even have familiarity with each other. All of these issues enter into the calculus of what the patients risk of a problem with a smooth recovery would be. Given all those issues it is not uncommon to have these procedures done together, just make sure everyone is clear about your risks for you don't want excessive risk of a problem post operatively because it "seems" simple to do both together.  

These two surgeries are often combined as long as the 2 surgeons are used to working together and you are a good candidate for surgery.  It is often divided in to 2 surgeries if the surgeons are unwilling to work together or have difficult schedules! Many "experienced" surgeons won't do this combination because they don't want to sit for 2 hours waiting for the gynecologist to finish the hysterectomy!  Doing it at the same time allows for 1 anesthetic and thus 1 anesthetic risk.  There is a risk of blood clot from any surgery performed under general anesthesia, but precautions can be taken to make this as safe as possible.  First, ask your gynecologist if they work with any plastic surgeons. Then check their credentials and make sure they are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  Go for a consult and see what they say.  Good luck!

combination of surgical procedures to undergo at the same time. There is an
increased risk of bleeding, infection, deep venous thrombosis (DVT)
and subsequent pulmonary embolism with this specific combination.
