Hello - I've developed nerve damage on the right side of my body that appears to be associated with my breast implants (when I hold my right breast to my chest my arm ache, back ache, shoulder ache and face droopiness seem to subside). Will explanting return my body and life to normal? I did not have this issue prior to getting breast implants and it is not starting to affect my quality of life. For context I went from an A cup to a D cup and my implants to appear to be bottoming out.
Answer: Nerve damage from breast implants Hello, thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear you're dealing with these symptoms; that sounds incredibly challenging. It is possible the nerve damage and associated discomfort could be related to the size and positioning of the implants, especially if they are bottoming out. Explanting may help alleviate some of these issues. However, every body responds differently, and while many people experience significant improvement after explant, it is not guaranteed that all symptoms will completely resolve. Taking care of your quality of life is crucial, so make sure you feel comfortable with the plan moving forward with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Please see the attached video that answers your question specifically.

Answer: Implants The implant is not affecting your face. However, D implants in some women will bottom out because they are too large and heavy on the tissue and frame. You might consider going down in size and correcting the inferior pocket. Do remember that you were not happy prior to augmentation with your breasts and may not be happy once removed. Heavy implants can cause too much pressure of tissue and cause nerve pain.

Answer: Will removing my implants help? There is no way to accurately predict if removing your implants will improve your symptoms. It could be the weight of the implants has some influence on your discomfort, but it may be unrelated. The only way to rule them out as a contributing factor is to have them removed.

Answer: Explant with Bellesoma Method Going from an A to a D increased the weight of your breasts, perhaps putting pressure on the nerves. Removing the implants may make the situation better or it may not. Unfortunately, you have not provided photographs. However, you may benefit from explantation and lift using The Bellesoma Method. The implants are removed, your breast tissue is reshaped creating upper pole fullness, elevated higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained if not injured from your previous surgery. Later, fat transfers can be performed if additional volume is desired. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Neurological issues from breast augmentation Would you describe it’s not normal and not typical. It’s hard to make a physiological correlation between holding your breast and having weakness in anything other than your arm. My best guess is having your implants removed. It’s not going to change your symptoms. Follow up with your plastic surgeon or get an evaluation for one sided body weakness. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
